IL SB2495

Amends the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act to prohibit legislators from participating in representation cases involving challenges to taxes or proposed tax/fee assessments filed on or after February 1, 2018, before the State of Illinois or any unit of local government.

Expands the definition of "representation case" to include matters before units of local government, in addition to existing State agency provisions.

Allows persons with close economic associations to legislators to participate in such tax challenge cases, unless the legislator directly or indirectly receives fees or compensation through partnership, limited liability corporation, or other business entity interests.

Classifies violations of the prohibition as a Class A misdemeanor.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
