IL SB2562

Amends the Freedom from Drone Surveillance Act to add an exception allowing law enforcement to use drones at large-scale events (over 100 people) for public safety purposes including crowd assessment, vulnerability evaluation, and criminal activity identification.

Prohibits drones used at large-scale events from being equipped with tear gas canisters, stun gun technology, dangerous or deadly weapons, or from firing projectiles.

Defines "large-scale event" as publicly or privately held events at sports arenas, stadiums, convention halls, special event centers, amusement facilities, licensed special event areas, or public gatherings on public ways or government-owned property.

Requires law enforcement agencies owning drones to report annually by April 1 the number of drones owned and the number of times drones were deployed under each exception in the previous year, including deployment date and location.

Mandates the Illinois Authority publish a public website report each July 1 listing every law enforcement agency that owns drones and the number of drones each agency owns.
