IL SB2629

Amends the Open Meetings Act to require fire protection district board members to complete training on open meetings compliance, either through the Public Access Counselor's electronic curriculum or through a course sponsored by an organization representing fire protection districts.

Fire protection district board members must complete training within 90 days of taking the oath of office or assuming their duties, whichever applies to their position.

Training courses for fire protection districts must cover legal requirements for open meetings, applicability of the Act, quorum and notice procedures, rules for open and closed meetings, and penalties for non-compliance.

Organizations representing fire protection districts that provide approved training must issue certificates of completion to board members who successfully complete the course.

Failure of one or more board members to complete training does not invalidate any action taken by the fire protection district.
