SB2633 Summary

• Amends the Firearm Concealed Carry Act to eliminate the requirement that non-resident license applicants must be from states or territories with firearm laws substantially similar to Illinois law.

• Allows the Department to approve non-resident concealed carry license applications from any state or territory of the United States without regard to similarity of that jurisdiction's firearms laws.

• Non-resident applicants must still meet all other qualifications under Illinois law (except Illinois residency), including background checks, training requirements, and mental health standards verification.

• Permits non-residents to transport concealed firearms in their vehicles in Illinois without a license if they meet federal eligibility requirements and possess valid carry authorization in their home state, with firearms stored in locked containers when vehicles are unattended.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
