IL SB2643

Prohibits the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency from entering into new contracts or renewing existing contracts with private contractors to operate emissions inspection stations, effective immediately upon passage.

Allows any motor vehicle maintenance or repair facility to apply for certification as an official inspection station if it employs Agency-certified inspectors, uses only certified inspectors for inspections, and uses Agency-approved equipment.

Requires the Agency to adopt rules governing applications for official inspection station certification, including applicable fees.

Permits the Agency to continue operating its own official inspection stations.

Repeals the contract prohibition on July 1, 2023, allowing the Agency to resume contracting with private parties after that date.
