IL SB2820

Amends Section 11-701 of the Illinois Vehicle Code to restrict left lane use on Interstate highways and fully access controlled freeways to overtaking/passing other vehicles or when directed by traffic markings, signs, signals, or authorized traffic personnel.

Removes the exemption that previously allowed vehicles to remain in the left lane when no other vehicle was directly behind them.

Maintains eight existing exceptions to the left lane restriction: traffic congestion, inclement weather, obstructions, lane changes for safety compliance, highway design requirements for exits, I-Pass toll collection, emergency/law enforcement vehicles, and highway maintenance vehicles.
