IL SB3045

Allows retired teachers (receiving non-disability retirement annuities) to accept employment as teachers without losing retirement status if employment occurs outside the school year of termination.

Establishes tiered limits on permitted employment based on time period: 100 paid days or 500 paid hours before July 1, 2001; 120 paid days or 600 paid hours from July 1, 2001 through June 30, 2011; 100 paid days or 500 paid hours from July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2018.

From July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2020, permits 120 paid days or 600 paid hours in each school year, but limits same-classroom employment to no more than 100 paid days.

Beginning July 1, 2020, reverts to 100 paid days or 500 paid hours in each school year; counts a day as 5 hours when employment is partly daily and partly hourly.

Exempts annuitants participating in the return-to-service program established in Section 16-150.1 from these employment restrictions.
