Public Act 100-1018 (SB3048) Summary

• Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services may provide recipients and managed care enrollees access to refurbished durable medical equipment through the State's assistive technology program's reutilization program, provided the equipment is less expensive, safe, and meets FDA regulations.

• Refurbished durable medical equipment excludes prosthetic and orthotic devices and complex rehabilitation technology products, and recipients retain the choice to obtain new equipment instead.

• The reutilization program must confirm recipients are not already receiving the same or similar equipment from another provider and that refurbished equipment equally meets the recipient's needs.

• Environmental responsibility, cost savings, and meeting recipient needs are promoted through the refurbished equipment option, which must meet standards including ability to withstand at least 3 years of use and cleaning per FDA guidance.
