SB3148 Summary

• Extends the maximum duration of restricted driving permits from one year to two years from the date of issuance for minors and adults convicted of drug-related offenses while in control of a motor vehicle.

• Increases the annual fee for restricted driving permits from a one-time $8 fee to an annual $8 fee that must be paid each year until the permit expires.

• Modifies restrictions on permit extension periods for drivers under 21 convicted of DUI offenses, allowing extensions of up to 24 months instead of 12 months.

• Changes permit expiration language in Sections 6-108, 6-201, and 6-205 of the Illinois Vehicle Code to allow permits valid "no later than 2 years" rather than "within one year" from issuance.

• Effective January 1, 2019.
