IL SB3181

Amends the Downstate Teacher Article of the Illinois Pension Code to allow members to establish optional credit for up to 2 years of service as a teacher or administrator at a private school recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Applicant must have been certified as a teacher under Illinois law at the time the service was rendered and must apply in writing on or before June 30, 2020.

Applicant must complete at least 10 years of contributing service as a teacher, supply satisfactory evidence of employment, and pay required contributions to receive the credit.

Credit may be applied for and contributions paid before completing the 10 years of service requirement, but the credit cannot be used until the 10-year requirement is met.

Act takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
