SB3255 Summary

• Adds Pre-Hospital Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (PHAPRN) and Pre-Hospital Physician Assistant (PHPA) as new categories of EMS personnel who can be licensed and approved by the Department of Public Health.

• Extends licensing and oversight authority for PHAPRN and PHPA professionals to include initial licensure, 4-year relicensure, suspension/revocation procedures, and scope of practice protocols within EMS Systems.

• Requires PHAPRN and PHPA candidates to complete supplemental education including extrication, telecommunications, EMS System standing medical orders, and pre-hospital cardiac, medical, and trauma care.

• Establishes that PHAPRN and PHPA professionals must be approved by an EMS Medical Director and practice within an Illinois EMS System for pre-hospital and inter-hospital emergency care and non-emergency medical transports.

• Takes effect one year after becoming law.
