SB3266 Summary

• Amends Section 5-9-1 of the Unified Code of Corrections regarding authorized fines and additional penalties imposed in criminal and traffic cases.

• Creates a tiered additional penalty structure for violations of Section 15-111 of the Illinois Vehicle Code: $15 for each $40 of the first $330 of fine imposed, and $10 for each $40 (or fraction thereof) of fine imposed in excess of $330.

• Maintains the standard $15 additional penalty for each $40 (or fraction thereof) of fines for all other criminal and traffic offenses (except parking, registration, and pedestrian violations).

• Directs the State Treasurer to deposit collected surcharge amounts into the LEADS Maintenance Fund ($1 per $40), Law Enforcement Camera Grant Fund ($3 per $40), and Traffic and Criminal Conviction Surcharge Fund with the remainder.

• Takes effect upon becoming law with an effective date referenced to P.A. 99-352.
