IL SB3507

Allows students diagnosed with pancreatic insufficiency (including cystic fibrosis) to self-administer and self-manage pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy in schools with written authorization from parents and physicians.

Requires schools to keep written authorizations on file with the school nurse or administrator.

Schools must adopt an emergency care plan that includes procedures for when students cannot self-administer therapy and specifies situations requiring a 911 call.

Schools must develop individualized health care plans in collaboration with the student's physician, parents, and school personnel covering health status, diagnoses, interventions, staff training, and goals to prevent medication misuse.

Records created under this section must be maintained confidentially in compliance with the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
