SB3540 Summary

• Amends Section 21B-5 of the School Code regarding licensure powers of the State Board of Education
• Makes a technical change removing redundant language ("that") in subsection (a) describing the State Board's authority
• State Board of Education, in consultation with the State Educator Preparation and Licensure Board, has authority to set teaching standards, approve educator preparation programs, establish new license types, and maintain licensure examinations
• Only the State Superintendent of Education may issue or endorse licenses for teaching and licensed employment in public schools, with no other state agency having authority to establish conflicting licensure requirements
