• Students renewing Monetary Award Program grants who otherwise meet renewal requirements are no longer required to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

• Beginning with the 2020-2021 academic year, grants awarded to first-time, full-time freshmen are guaranteed for renewal through completion of a baccalaureate degree or 135 credit hours if the recipient meets renewal requirements and remains enrolled at the same institution.

• The bill maintains legislative intent that funding for Monetary Award Program grants to first-time applicants who are not freshmen shall not be reduced or eliminated.

• Grants remain applicable only to tuition and necessary fees, with maximum amounts established by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission subject to appropriation.
