IL SB3609

Allows school boards to grant written permission to licensed educators, qualified staff, or qualified volunteers to carry firearms in schools while performing job duties, provided they undergo psychiatric evaluation and possess a valid concealed carry license.

Prohibits school districts from requiring any educator, qualified staff member, or volunteer to carry a firearm as a condition of employment.

Mandates that persons permitted to carry firearms in schools receive additional training on dealing with children.

Exempts educators, qualified staff, and qualified volunteers carrying firearms under school board permission from violations of unlawful use of weapons and aggravated unlawful use of weapons statutes.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
