IL SB3625

Amends the Critical Health Problems and Comprehensive Health Education Act to expand the mental health and illness component of health education curricula.

Requires mental health instruction to recognize multiple dimensions of health by including material on mental health, the relationship between physical and mental health, and how these factors enhance student understanding, attitudes, and behavior promoting health, well-being, and human dignity.

Maintains existing requirements for comprehensive health education including human growth and development, disease prevention, sexual abstinence, substance abuse education in grades 5-12, and CPR/automated external defibrillator training in secondary schools.

Allows parents or guardians to submit written objections to exempt their children from participation in AIDS education, family life instruction, or CPR/defibrillator training without penalty to the student.

Authorizes the State Board of Education to establish a matching grant program to reimburse school districts for half the cost of training teachers and personnel in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator use.
