United States Congress allowed the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) to expire, the first time in two decades this occurred, leaving insurance coverage uncertain for more than 100,000 Illinois children.

CHIP provides health insurance to working families without access to coverage and provides prenatal care to over 370,000 pregnant women nationally.

Illinois received more than $200 million last year to fund CHIP, with remaining funds expected to last through the next year.

Illinois Senate urges Congress to renew CHIP for five years to provide stability and certainty to Illinois children, as the program has helped reduce uninsured children to a record low of 7%.

Resolution directs copies be sent to President Trump, congressional leadership, and all members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
