Served as President of Jewel-Osco, beginning his career as a parking lot cart clerk at age 17 and advancing through the company

Served on the boards of The Northern Illinois Food Bank, the Greater Chicago Food Depository, and Western Michigan University

Survived by his wife Shonna, six children (Mitchell, Taylor, Alexa, Timothy, Mikyla, and Ryan), two brothers (Rich and Scott), and his mother Mary

Illinois Senate extends condolences to his family and friends, and directs a suitable copy of the resolution be presented to the Cygan family
