Honors George Makela of Waukegan, who passed away on July 15, 2018, at age 95.

Recognizes his service as a U.S. Marine during World War II in the Pacific, achieving the rank of Sergeant, and his subsequent work at Makela's Grocery and Copley Newspaper.

Notes his community involvement including 15 years as a basketball referee in Lake County and participation in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. with fellow World War II veterans.

Survived by his wife of 72 years Jean Makela, his son Rob, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and extended family members.

Extends the Illinois Senate's condolences to his family and directs presentation of this resolution to the Makela family.
