Richard Lee "Dick" Emery of Crystal Lake passed away on July 17, 2018, and the Illinois Senate expresses condolences to his family and loved ones.

Emery was born May 21, 1938, in Altadena, California, and graduated from Mount Diablo High School where he played football and baseball.

Emery enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1957, earned his Navy Wings of Gold in February 1960, and retired as a Commander after 20 years of service.

Emery earned a Bachelor of Science in Business and Industrial Management from San Jose State University in 1966 and had a 32-year career with United Airlines, retiring as captain in June 1998.

Emery is survived by his wife of 51 years Betty Lou, sons Christopher and Eric, three grandchildren, and sister Mary Woods.
