Sterling D. Grandberry of Oak Park passed away on October 28, 2017, and the Illinois Senate expresses condolences to his family and loved ones.

Born June 7, 1933, in Macon, Tennessee, Grandberry served as a Head Chef in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in December 1956.

Grandberry worked as Head Chef at Henrici's Restaurant, owned a television repair shop and G&E Restaurants, and managed rental properties throughout the Chicago area.

Served 21 years on the Board of Pyramid West Development Corporation, which managed housing units and provided employment assistance, and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church for over 70 years, serving as Trustee, Layman, and ordained Deacon.

Survived by his wife Debra Mabone-Grandberry, five children, two grandchildren, and multiple siblings and extended family members.
