John Anthony Shubitz of Waukegan died on September 7, 2018, and the Illinois Senate memorializes his passing.

Born July 29, 1938 in Duluth, Minnesota to Slovenian immigrant parents, Shubitz earned degrees in philosophy and theology from St. Paul Seminary and a master's degree in education from University of Wisconsin-Superior.

Worked nearly 30 years as a high school guidance counselor at Waukegan East High School and Waukegan High School, and oversaw the district's night school program.

Survived by his wife Rita (Latini) Shubitz, sons Mark and Steven, grandsons Jonathan and Matthew, sisters Genevieve Shubitz and Dorothy Janchar, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Senate extends condolences to Shubitz's family and directs that a copy of this resolution be presented to his family.
