Illinois Senate honors the memory of Mary Lee Stackhouse Gardner of Waukegan, who passed away on October 2, 2018.

Gardner was born January 6, 1937 in Clarksdale, Mississippi and moved to Waukegan in 1951, where she married John Gardner on August 27, 1955.

She worked as a career employee at Downy V.A. Hospital, attended College of Lake County, and became a Registered Nurse before retiring.

Gardner served as President of Shiloh Baptist Church Health Unit for more than ten years, developing health awareness programs and leading CPR training and health fairs in collaboration with the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, and American Diabetes Association.

Senate extends condolences to her surviving family including her husband John, four children, siblings, and numerous extended family members and godchildren.
