Paul Luty Obis Jr., founder of Vegetarian Times magazine, passed away on June 25, 2018 at age 66.

Founded Vegetarian Times in 1974 as a hand-delivered newsletter that grew to approximately 1.7 million readers and featured cover stories on famous vegetarians including Michael Jackson, Madonna, and River Phoenix.

Raised six sons with his first wife, Mariclaire Barrett, who served as food editor and book reviewer for the magazine; later married Janeen in 2014 and settled in Los Angeles.

Known for his kindness, empathy, and commitment to humanitarian causes, including acts of generosity such as buying $400 worth of groceries for families in need.

Senate resolution mourns his passing and extends condolences to his surviving family: his second wife Janeen, his six sons (Nick, Quentin, Paul W., Kevin, Timothy, and Gregory), and his grandson.
