IL HB0226

Allows State policemen to elect to establish up to 5 years of eligible creditable service for work as full-time law enforcement officers employed by the federal government or by state or local governments outside Illinois, provided the service is not credited in any other public employee pension fund.

Requires applicants to file written application with the State Employees' Retirement System Board no later than 3 years after the bill's effective date, along with evidence of eligibility and payment of an amount determined by the Board.

Excludes benefit increases resulting from this bill from the definition of "new benefit increase" under Section 14-152.1 of the Illinois Pension Code, exempting it from the 5-year expiration requirement.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
