DuPage County townships may dissolve through voter referendum, with township boards submitting dissolution propositions or residents petitioning for referendals requiring signatures from 5% of township voters.

Upon dissolution approval, all township and road district property, assets, personnel, contracts, and liabilities transfer to DuPage County, with funds restricted to use within the dissolved township's boundaries.

DuPage County property tax levies for dissolved township duties are capped at 90% of the original levy and cannot extend beyond dissolved township boundaries.

Municipalities within dissolving townships may assume road district duties within 60 days of dissolution; if no municipality accepts, DuPage County retains the responsibilities.

Road districts in DuPage County townships with fewer than 15 centerline miles of roads are automatically abolished upon the highway commissioner's term expiration, with all assets and duties transferring to the township.
