Public body employees, officers, and members must complete electronic training on Open Meetings Act compliance developed by the Public Access Counselor, with designated trainers completing it within 6 months and annual refresher training thereafter.

Existing public body members as of the effective date must complete the training within one year; new members must complete it within 90 days of taking office or assuming responsibilities.

School board members, drainage district commissioners, soil and water conservation district directors, and park/forest preserve/conservation district members may satisfy training requirements through courses sponsored by their respective professional organizations.

Municipal elected or appointed members may satisfy training requirements through courses sponsored by organizations representing municipalities as designated in the Illinois Municipal Code.

Failure of members to complete training does not invalidate public body actions, and completing training as a member satisfies requirements for committee, subcommittee, and ex officio service.
