IL HB2056

Removes the requirement that teacher education applicants pass a basic skills test before starting student teaching or their final internship semester.

Allows applicants who fail the basic skills test on their first attempt to complete a full school year of student teaching or internship instead of retaking the test.

Prohibits higher education institutions from requiring the basic skills test before applicants complete at least one semester of student teaching or internship.

Exempts individuals who complete a full school year of student teaching or internship from retaking the basic skills test when seeking subsequent endorsements or educator licenses.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
