HB2157 Summary

• Requires annexation petitions for contiguous unincorporated territory to state that the petition is made solely for the benefit of landowners and residents in the territory being annexed.

• Requires annexation petitions to include a statement that the petition is not intended to assist any municipality in annexing additional unincorporated territory of 60 acres or less under Section 7-1-13.

• Defines "privately-owned land" as land not owned by the State, school districts, or units of local government for purposes of Section 7-1-13 annexation procedures.

• Specifies that territory being annexed under Section 7-1-13 must be wholly bounded by privately-owned land in municipalities, along with other specified boundaries including waterways, state property, or federal facilities.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
