IL HB2211

Amends the Election Code Section 28-1 to add referenda held under Section 3-47 of the Property Tax Code as an exception to the 3-question limit on public referenda submitted to political subdivisions at the same election.

Creates Section 3-47 of the Property Tax Code requiring Lake County election authority to submit a referendum to voters at the November 3, 2020 general election on whether to convert the Office of the Chief Assessment Officer of Lake County from an appointed office to an elected office.

Referendum shall be approved if a majority of voters voting on the question approve it, with votes recorded as "Yes" or "No."

Upon approval, the Chief Assessment Officer of Lake County shall become an elected position, first filled at the general election following referendum approval, and the incumbent's office shall become vacant.

Any person seeking election as Chief Assessment Officer of Lake County shall comply with the provisions governing county assessor elections under Section 3-45 of the Property Tax Code.
