HB2234 Summary

• Physical education waivers/modifications limited to 2 school years (instead of 5) and renewable no more than 2 times, with ability to change within the 2-year period following initial waiver procedures.

• Elementary school students must engage in physical education minimum 150 minutes per week; middle and high school students minimum 225 minutes per week (replaces previous requirement of 3 days per 5-day week).

• Students are not required to make up physical education minutes if a student non-attendance day or school closure falls on a scheduled PE class day.

• "Student non-attendance day" defined as a day when no students are present or engaged in learning, as defined by the school district.

• Effective July 1, 2019.
