IL HB2294

Creates the Ultrasound Opportunity Act requiring abortion facilities to offer women seeking abortions after 8 weeks of gestation an opportunity to receive and view an active ultrasound of the unborn child before any abortion procedure or anesthesia is administered.

Ultrasound must be performed by a qualified person, be of quality consistent with standard medical practice, and can be provided at the facility or at a local ultrasound provider listed by the facility.

Facilities must document the woman's response to the ultrasound offer, including date, time, and the woman's signature attesting to her informed decision to accept or decline.

Medical emergency exception allows physicians to waive ultrasound requirements when, in their medical judgment, a condition necessitates immediate abortion to avert the woman's death or prevent serious risk of substantial and irreversible impairment of major bodily function.

Effective immediately upon enactment with severability provision.
