HB2407 Summary

• Beginning January 1, 2022, reduces the Alternative Educator Licensure Program for Teachers from 4 phases to 3 phases by eliminating the second year of residency.

• Changes the validity period of an alternative provisional educator endorsement from 2 years to 1 year of teaching in public schools.

• Allows renewal of the alternative provisional educator endorsement for a second year (instead of third year) if needed to complete the Alternative Educator Licensure Program for Teachers.

• Updates residency assessment requirements to reflect the new 3-phase structure, with comprehensive assessment occurring at the end of residency rather than after a second residency year.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
