IL HB2462

Amends the Illinois Abortion Law of 1975 to expand the definition of "viability" to include when an unborn child has a fetal heartbeat, as determined by the attending physician based on the particular facts of the case.

Adds a new definition of "fetal heartbeat" as cardiac activity or the steady and repetitive rhythmic contraction of the fetal heart within the gestational sac.

Allows viability to be established by either the traditional standard of reasonable likelihood of sustained survival outside the womb with or without artificial support, OR by the presence of a fetal heartbeat.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
