Persons convicted of felonies relating to their service as a police officer are ineligible for any benefits under the Illinois Pension Code Article 5.

Survivor benefits are denied to persons convicted of felonies related to the deceased officer's service, or felonies involving the intentional and wrongful death of an officer through whom they would receive an annuity.

Persons who intentionally and unjustifiably cause delays in felony proceedings related to their police service forfeit all benefits effective from the indictment filing date; applies to convictions entered on or after January 1, 2019.

Refunds for persons convicted of felonies are calculated based on their contributions minus any annuity benefits already received; applies to refund applications filed on or after January 1, 2019.

Police officers who prevail in administrative review actions challenging denials of duty disability or occupational disease disability benefits are entitled to recover court costs, litigation expenses, and reasonable attorney's fees from the pension fund.
