HB2511 - Suicide Prevention Act

• Creates the Suicide Prevention Act requiring therapists to identify a family member or other person to consult every 30 days for one year following a suicide attempt by a patient age 18 or older receiving mental health services.

• Allows therapists to extend the 30-day consultation period beyond one year based on clinical need.

• Grants therapists immunity from criminal or civil liability for disclosing a patient's therapy information or discussing treatment progress with the designated family member or person, subject to federal HIPAA restrictions.

• Amends the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act to permit persons designated under the Suicide Prevention Act to access and inspect a recipient's mental health records.
