Hotel Employee Safety Act Summary

• Requires hotels to equip employees working alone in guest rooms or restrooms with panic buttons or notification devices at no cost to summon help during crimes, sexual harassment, sexual assault, or emergencies.

• Mandates hotels develop and maintain written anti-sexual harassment policies protecting employees against guest misconduct, including procedures for reporting, temporary work reassignments, and paid time off for police complaints and legal proceedings.

• Requires hotels to provide and post anti-sexual harassment policies to all employees in English, Spanish, and Polish in conspicuous workplace areas.

• Prohibits hotel retaliation against employees for using panic buttons, following policy procedures, or reporting violations of the Act.

• Violations are enforced by the Department of Human Rights with fines of $250-$500 per offense, with each day of violation constituting a separate offense; complaints must be filed within 180 days.
