IL HB2583

Amends the River Conservancy Districts Act to allow petitions for adding territory to existing conservancy districts signed by one percent or more of legal voters in the proposed addition area.

Permits inclusion of a new name for the expanded district in the petition, if desired, in addition to the description of boundaries.

Maintains the requirement that the board of trustees must accept proposed additional territory by ordinance and that voters must approve annexation by majority vote.

Allows alternative annexation method where a majority of landowners representing a majority in area of the territory can petition directly without a voter referendum, subject to court approval.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
