IL HB2802

Increases the time period for remaining school board members to fill a vacancy from 45 days to 60 days before the regional superintendent becomes responsible for filling it.

Applies to school districts with populations between 1,000 and 500,000 inhabitants governed by a 7-member board of education.

Vacancies do not require an election if fewer than 868 days remain in the term or if the vacancy occurs less than 88 days before the next regularly scheduled election.

Regional superintendent must fill any remaining vacancy within 30 days if the board members fail to act, with the position filled at the next regular election if the superintendent also fails to act.

Successor board members must meet residency requirements and cannot be child sex offenders, removed school board members, or school trustees.
