HB2936 Summary

• Amends the Public Corruption Profit Forfeiture Act to require forfeited assets from public corruption convictions be distributed to law enforcement agencies (50%), county prosecutors (12.5%), State's Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor (12.5%), and Department of State Police (25%).

• Creates two new special funds in the State Treasury: the Attorney General Whistleblower Reward and Protection Fund and the State Police Whistleblower Reward and Protection Fund to receive forfeiture proceeds when investigations are conducted by state agencies.

• Modifies the Illinois False Claims Act to establish the State Whistleblower Reward and Protection Fund to be held outside the State Treasury with the State Treasurer as custodian, with proceeds distributed one-sixth each to the Attorney General and State Police whistleblower funds and two-thirds for qui tam plaintiff awards.

• Changes terminology from "Attorney General's Whistleblower Reward and Protection Fund" to "Attorney General Whistleblower Reward and Protection Fund" throughout the statute.

• Takes effect upon becoming law.
