IL HB2979

Amends the Illinois Fire Protection Training Act, Illinois Municipal Code, and Fire Protection District Act to establish weight limits on fire protective clothing and safety equipment for firefighters.

Firefighters and trainees cannot be required to carry fire protective clothing and equipment exceeding 75 pounds or more than 50% of their body weight, whichever is less.

Requires the Office of the State Fire Marshal to adopt rules implementing the 75-pound or 50% body weight maximum weight limit for trainees.

Applies uniformly to firefighters in municipalities and fire protection districts across Illinois.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
