Department of Healthcare and Family Services shall develop a prescriber education program in collaboration with a public university with a Doctor of Pharmacy Professional Program located in a county with over 3,000,000 population.

Program provides physicians under the medical assistance program with evidence-based, non-commercial information about pharmaceuticals presented by trained pharmacists, nurses, or other health professionals.

Program consists of a web-based curriculum and academic educator outreach, with clinical pharmacists conducting scheduled visits to update prescribing physicians on medication research and disease state information.

Educational modules cover chronic non-cancer pain, diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, respiratory syncytial virus, and nicotine dependence, with continuing medical education credit provided and annual content updates.

Additional resources include a drug information response center answering physician questions within 48 hours and information on drug utilization trends within individual and group practices.
