IL HB3145

Amends Section 10-16.5 of the Illinois School Code regarding the oath of office for school board members.

Removes extended provisions from the school board member oath that addressed taxpayer interests, free expression, board authority, majority decisions, student education responsibility, community participation, student potential, assessment of achievement, education advocacy, and collaboration with the superintendent.

Retains the basic oath requiring school board members to faithfully discharge their duties in accordance with the U.S. Constitution, Illinois Constitution, and Illinois law.

School boards retain authority to determine how the oath is administered.
