IL HB3196

Establishes a 24-member Immigration Task Force consisting of legislative leaders, executive branch representatives, state agency directors, and five Governor-appointed representatives from immigrant service organizations.

Task Force must convene as soon as practicable and hold at least 12 meetings, with members serving without compensation and the Department of Human Services providing administrative support.

Requires the Task Force to examine state support for immigrant communities, inter-agency cooperation, geographic disparities in services, discrimination against immigrants, effectiveness of immigrant-benefit laws, ICE practices and detention centers, and all state contracts with federal immigration authorities.

Mandates the Task Force submit findings and recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly by May 31, 2020.

Act automatically repeals on January 1, 2021.
