HB3305 Summary

• Creates the Make Sexual Abuse Fully Extinct (Make S.A.F.E.) Task Force to address sexual abuse of students in school-related settings, including abuse by school employees or other students.

• Task Force membership consists of 18 members appointed by legislative leaders, the State Superintendent of Education, and representatives from children's advocacy centers, schools, law enforcement, prosecutors, sexual assault organizations, and teachers' unions.

• Task Force must review best practices for preventing sexual abuse, addressing abuse when it occurs, and supporting affected students across all public, nonpublic, and charter schools serving prekindergarten through grade 12.

• Task Force must submit findings report to the Governor and General Assembly by January 1, 2020, covering criminal background checks, employment procedures, forensic interviews, school policies, and student support services.

• Task Force dissolves upon submission of report; the entire section is repealed on July 1, 2020.
