Modifies survivor pension benefits for downstate firefighters hired on or after January 1, 2011, providing the greater of either 54% of monthly salary at death or 66⅔% of earned pension (previously only 66⅔% of earned pension).

Changes apply retroactively without regard to whether the deceased firefighter was in service before or after the effective date of this amendatory act.

Survivor pension for new tier firefighters increases annually on January 1 after age 60 by 3% or one-half the annual consumer price index increase (whichever is less).

Adds Section 8.43 to the State Mandates Act to exempt this mandate from state reimbursement requirements to local governments.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
