IL HB3375

Amends the Statute on Statutes (5 ILCS 70/1.36) to define terms "person," "human being," "child," and "individual" to include any infant member of the human species born alive at any stage of development.

Defines "born alive" as complete expulsion or extraction from the mother of an infant who after expulsion or extraction breathes, has a beating heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, regardless of whether the umbilical cord has been cut or the delivery resulted from natural labor, cesarean section, or induced abortion.

Adds new provision stating that a live child born as a result of an abortion shall be fully recognized as a human person and accorded immediate protection under the law.

Removes three subsections that previously provided that the law shall not be construed to affect legal status prior to live birth, existing abortion law, or medical standards.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
