HB3403 Summary

• Requires ignition interlock devices for a minimum of 5 years on all vehicles owned by persons convicted of a first DUI offense under Section 11-501 of the Illinois Vehicle Code or similar local ordinance provisions.

• Changes existing law that previously required ignition interlock devices only for second or subsequent DUI offenses to now include first-time offenders.

• Person must pay the Secretary of State DUI Administration Fund no more than $30 per month for each month the device is used.

• Secretary of State establishes rules and procedures for certification, use, and fees related to ignition interlock system operation.

• Applies to violations of driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, intoxicating compounds, or any combination thereof.
