Water heater and tank manufacturers or suppliers must install a temperature mixing valve or safety valve on all residential water heaters in Illinois to prevent water above 120 degrees Fahrenheit from coming into direct contact with people.

The Department of Public Health shall administer and enforce this Act.

Violations carry a civil penalty of $500 for the first offense and $1,000 for each subsequent violation, enforceable by the State's Attorney or Attorney General in circuit court.

Plumbers installing water heaters or tanks in Illinois residences or residential facilities must supply or attach the required temperature mixing valve or safety valve to the unit.
